Colleges offering BA TESOL Degrees in English

General Requirements and Program Details

Specific admission requirements and program benefits vary by institution, but generally include:

  • Non-Immigrant ED Visa: Most programs offer a long-term visa that allows you to stay and study legally in Thailand. "ED" is an abbreviation for 'education." This is becoming increasingly important as the Thai government moves to limit visa runs by restricting the number of visa exemptions permitted within a calendar year.

  • Accreditation: These Thai universities are fully licensed, and their BA TESOL programs are accredited by Thailand’s Ministry of Education. Graduating with an accredited degree opens doors to schools and educational institutions that are typically closed to

      non-degree holders.

  • Duration: Programs typically take around 4 years to complete, though flexible options may allow for completion in 3 or 3.5 years.

  • Flexible Scheduling: Classes are held in the evenings and particularly on weekends (see STC). This is an important consideration for those who want to teach during the weekdays.

  • Eligibility: Applicants typically require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Non-native English speakers will need to provide an English proficiency test score, such as IELTS or TOEIC.

  • Curriculum: Coursework often covers foundational linguistics, language acquisition theories, teaching methods, assessment strategies, and practical teaching experience (practicum).

  • Teaching License: A key advantage of some local B.Ed programs is that some programs make graduates eligible to apply for a professional Thai Teaching License from the Teachers' Council of Thailand, which is required for teaching in public schools and some private institutions.

  • Low Cost: Tuition fees in local programs can be significantly more affordable compared to international programs. For example, the RMUTR program costs approximately 180,000 baht in total over four years.

The End Game

Some of our TEFL students who didn't have a BA started teaching at 37,000 to 40,000 per month.  After they spent 4 years doing a BA in TESOL, that qualification, plus their subsequent teaching experience, landed them big salary increases--some over 100,000 monthly.

They now had a recognised degree, extensive classroom experience, and Thai cultural adaptation--the profile that international schools actively seek.
