Vantage's On-Site TEFL Certification Course in Bangkok
Vantage TEFL Certification offers a fully accredited 120-hour in-person course held over four weeks, available throughout the year in Thailand.
A key feature of the program is six on-site Observed Teaching Practices (OTPs) conducted in real Thai classrooms with non-English-speaking students, giving you direct, hands-on teaching experience. You will teach different age groups and different English proficiency levels.
Our face-to-face course is designed to equip you with the essential skills and confidence to succeed in a real-world classroom. We focus on empowering you to become the most effective teacher you can be.
Lessons follow the communicative approach to language instruction—an internationally recognized, student-centered methodology that emphasizes practical skills and classroom interaction.

Student Profile
This is one of the most practical and fundamental parts of the training—many trainees consider it the most valuable.
You’ll teach real students in a live classroom, immediately applying what you’ve learned and gaining firsthand insight into how to refine your teaching techniques.
You’ll also benefit from observing your peers in action. After each session, you’ll receive detailed verbal and written feedback from your course trainer to help you improve with every lesson.
We’ll go over the basics of English grammar—things like tenses, parts of speech, and other important language points.
You’ll learn them for yourself and how to teach them to your students using simple lessons and fun activities.
We’ll also dive into pronunciation (phonology), including how to use the International Phonemic Alphabet, plus tips on intonation, stress, and how sounds are made.
In addition to the six group lessons you'll teach during Observed Teaching Practice, you'll also work one-on-one with an individual student.
This helps you build rapport, plan lessons based on a student’s specific needs, and practice skills like error analysis and correction.
You’ll meet with your student twice—once to get to know them and gather information, and once for the actual lesson.
Afterwards, you'll write about the experience, reflecting on what it’s like to teach a student.

Materials Project
In this part of the course, you’ll reflect on the two best sets of teaching materials you used during your Observed Teaching Practice lessons.
The goal is to help you learn how to adapt, improve, and build on existing materials—boosting your creativity and resourcefulness as a teacher.
Creating your own materials also gives you a clearer sense of how they can be used to model, practice, and support your lessons.
You’ll present your chosen materials to Vantage's trainer, explaining why you picked them and what you learned from using them in the classroom.
Foreign Language Experience
To help you better understand your students’ perspective, we include Thai language lessons for all our trainees.
The idea is to put you in your students’ shoes—so you can experience what it’s like to learn a completely new language, just like they do when learning English.
You’ll take part in two Thai lessons and then write a short journal reflecting on what you learned from the experience.
Where Knowledge Becomes Skill
You also undergo a minimum of 6 hours of Observed Teaching Practice. Called “The Practicum,” you will teach real non-English speaking students in a live classroom—and get valuable feedback after eaach class from our professional trainers.
The practicum is where professional teachers are born.
The practicum is the heart and soul of Vantage's professional TEFL certification program. It is one of the most valued parts of the course. It’s also why many schools will not accept a TEFL without a practicum.

Grammar—An Unnecessary Worry for many TEFL Trainees
Vantage teaches the communicative approach to language learning, which deemphasizes traditional grammar and memorization as the primary technique in second language acquisition.
Yes, grammar is important, and Vantage's TEFL program will cover both grammar and phonology. But you will learn how to make grammar engaging and relevant, transforming it from a dreaded subject into an integral part of your teaching toolkit.
Our teaching emphasis in the classroom is to encourage students to speak through an elicited and directed technique called the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) methodology.
Our course breaks down complex grammar points into digestible, student-friendly concepts, providing you with strategies to confidently integrate grammar instruction into communicative lessons.
Learn how the ESA has been successfully introduced throughout Thailand through the British Council's Bootstrap program.
